Carver Tom "TJ" Henning is a retired US Navy pilot who, years ago, combined a love for the sea, nature and woodworking, and began carving whales and shorebirds. He hasn't stopped since. As a full-time resident of the local city of Port Orchard, he concentrates most of his work on animal species indigenous to the Pacific Northwest.All of Tom's pieces are carved the old fashioned way - by hand - out of Basswood and Tupelo Gum, painted with acrylics, and mounted in natural settings using materials he finds kayaking and beachcombing along local shorelines with his wife Peggy (and Heidi the dog).

Tom carves under "Hawkeye Carving Company", named after his long lost old pal Hawkeye, the labrador retriever.
