Artist Statement

I began my journey as a silk printer about five years ago. During that time, I retired from many years of working as a computer programmer. I now spend my days surrounded by color. I love the movement and freedom of the dyes as they flow across the silk. It is an ongoing adventure seeing what happens as the dyes intermingle and react with the silk.

I take a lot of my subject matter from nature. My work is sometimes whimsical and enriched by the brilliant colors and lightness of working with silk. I have been painting watercolors for about 30 years. On silk, I incorporate watercolor techniques, a bit of batik and lots of spray starch. I use Procion H dyes and steam set the silk.

I paint at my studio in the Boston Harbor area of Olympia, where I live with my husband cat and dog.
